This preparation first requires the hearth to be split into 3 sections, after which a sand and cement mixture is poured into the underside, to prevent the hearth from cracking. The next step, is to take the back-panel and section this into three parts (the header and slips). The back-panel, is then made to be 2 inch thick overall, finally, a sand and cement mixture is also poured into the underside to prevent the back-panel from cracking!
